Professor Anthony Warrens received undergraduate degrees from the Universities of Glasgow and Oxford subsequently gaining a DM from Oxford and PhD from the University of London. He undertook further postdoctoral training in Boston, USA. His research interest are in transplantation biology, in particular in the mechanisms underlying rejection. More recently, as a result of an awareness in his clinical practice of the gross shortage of organs for transplantation, he has developed an interest in understanding attitudes to organ donations in various communities.
Always interested in education, while still at Imperial College, he established the Graduate Entry MB BS Programme. In 2010 he moved to Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London as Dean for Education, shortly thereafter becoming Director of the Institute of Health Sciences Education. Building on the relationship between the Medical School and its largest associated NHS Trust, he was Clinical Director of Barts Health Education Academy from 2012 until 2016.
He maintains an active clinical life working as a consultant nephrologist at the Royal London Hospital and was previously also Clinical Director of the Clinical Transplantation Laboratory.
